ABOUT
An author, sailor, and veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan, I became an author largely by accident, through writing for my own pleasure.
I was first drawn to tall ships during a visit to the South Street Seaport Museum in New York City, I began sailing on their 19th century schooner, the Pioneer. After leaving New York, I sailed on my own vessels on the coast of Florida and in the Chesapeake Bay. I obtained my US Coast Guard Merchant Mariners Credentials (MMC) as master of vessels of less than fifty (50) tons and soon joined the crew of the skipjack Claud W. Somers as relief Captain. I've sailed as crew and captain on other people's boats in the Bahamas, British Virgin Islands and the Windward Islands, having completed more than five thousand miles under sail.

My professional career has involved working for institutions of higher education, premier entertainment facilities and the military intelligence community. I am currently employed by Virginia Commonwealth University, though my thirty year career has included institutions such as the University of Central Florida, the City University of New York, Madison Square Garden and the American Museum of Natural History. I'm nearing retirement in the US Navy Reserve as a Chief Warrant Officer, having never served on a naval vessel.
